Welcome!

The SUMC 409 Student Space is one of six student spaces within the Student Culture & Engagement Hub at the University of Arizona.

Welcome to SUMC 409 (formerly known as APASA)!

SUMC 409 History & Mission

The cultural space was established in 1993 due to the help of student activism by some students from our first club, the Asian American Cultural Association, and other students from marginalized communities. We provide a physical space for students, as well as implement services to achieve the following:

  • Promote student success for the diverse East Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi or South Asian American communities on campus
  • Increase awareness of the experiences and issues facing the diverse communities represented within APASA
  • Provide academic, educational, and cultural programs and resources to engage students to become active citizens in our ever-increasing global society
  • Support individual students in realizing their academic, personal, and professional goal

SUMC 409 Center

Located on the fourth floor of the Student Union Memorial Center in the heart of campus, the Center provides students with a place to meet new friends, hang out between classes and learn more about what The University of Arizona has to offer.
